White trailer L.E.D. back up lights

Hey guys,

I need to see better when backing into an unknown campsite in the dark and I'm looking to install some very bright, submersible trailer lights. They've got to be white and LED for power consumption reasons. I'm planning on mounting them behind the rear wheel well underneath the step that is on the rear section of my trailer. I'd like them to be a strip or as many leds as I can get but, money is an issue.

I found these for $9 a piece but, I'm afraid they won't be all that bright. I could install 3 lights on each side of the trailer.

Then I found these, scroll down half way and you'll see the selection. There's good choices but, the price isn't right

Finally, another example of what I'm looking for but, check out the price jump when you go from red or amber to clear, WTF?

I'm looking for any comments or suggestions, thanks.

I have thought about the whole backing up at night thing too Pete. I was thinking more along the lines of forward and reversing facing tower lights. Just hop in the boat and turn em on when you need more light. Those things could probably light things up pretty clear.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Tower lights are out, I don't have anything electrical on my tower and I'm not going to put lights up there just to back up once in awhile. Thanks anyway Matt.

I've looked real hard and the best thing I can find are these on ebay

They may not be the best lights out there but, the price for 4 is unbeatable. This company also sells mounting brackets so, I'm going to mount them underneath the rear step in the trailer and if they fail or aren't bright enough, I can always upgrade to the more expensive (and probably better) back up lights that will pop right into my standard sized oval mounting brackets.

I would definetly find out if those lights are white and not just clear lenses and red led's. I have some that look exactly like that and they have red led's and are tail/turn lights.

Thanks for the concern.

You're right, in my search I found a lot of those lights that had clear lenses but, had amber or red diodes. So, I've been really careful about the diode color description. The title of the ebay auction says they're white and I've been in contact with this guy. He seems to sell this stuff out of a legitamate store in FL. We're very clear on what I'm getting.

This is his company:

is your trailer wired for back-up lights? or are you going to change the plug on the trailer & your rig?

if you run white lights on your trailer as running lights, or brake lights - you may get hit by the CHP

C'mon Matt,

I'm smarter than that. (oh wait, o.k. maybe that wasn't evident the day we met)

Anyway, these are strictly back up lights. unbeknownst to you, Biggrin.gif modern day trailers have a 5 flat connector. I'm going to tap into the wire that goes to my reverse lock-out solenoid for my surge brakes to power the lights. That's why they gotta be l.e.d., 'cause I can't be pulling too much amperage on that wimpy circuit.

edit: do those old school trailers even have brakes? ROFL.gif

OK, I guess I do not understand the Pipe Lites. If they mount on your trailer PVC pipes, how do they mount? My PVC pipes (which are covered by pads) can spin on a stationary pipe. So if I mount a wired light on the PVC, the ppe will turn when the boat rubs past it and then the wiring will be toast. Cry.gif So, what am I missing? Am I the only one with that situation?

You're right Gordo,

According to the pictures on his website, I don't know how the lights would first, attach to the PVC poles and secondly, keep from rotating. Why not drop Barry a line. He was super helpful with me.

edit: thanks for the compliment, Matt. I can't wait to install the second, stealthy set.

BTW, the lights are installed here:
