Adjusting Brightness

I have an '06 iRide which has speed control. The speed control has an LCD display in the center of the dash.

The owners manual doesn't seem to cover the usage of this display very well.

I was out on the lake at night for the first time the other day and the amount of light coming off of this center display was blinding. I couldn't even see past the windshield when my eyes adjusted to the bright light.

Is there any way to adjust the brightness of the back light on this display when the dash lights are on? I got into the setup menu and there was a contrast adjustment, but no brightness.

From the manual, it sounds like the "setup" menu "Contrast" selection should do it. It even says "adjusting th brightness".

However, the manual is incorrect and the menu option is correct; it actually adjusts the contrast.

It really is quite irritating. The red lights in the analog parts of the dash are perfect and this beacon in the middle blinds you.

I wonder if anyone knows how this is backlit? Are they LED's?

If there isn't an adjustment for this I may have to look and see if I can put some type of dimmer/variable resistor on the power feed to the backlight.

If you figure it out, let us know! You should be able to contact the folks at PerfectPass ... I understand they are usually very helpful. A search might get a contact/phone # although, there is probably one in the manual.

Maybe even an e-mail to them ....... ah yes, maybe I will :-)

Edit: just sent an e-mail. Will let you know what I hear back.

Looking forward to any response you may get

On new versions you press the MENU and UP key to adjust the contrast and backlight level. On older versions there is no direct control. You can put a switch on the BROWN wire leading to the display to disable the backlight. You could dim it as well by adding a 0-100 ohm inline resistor.

Thank You,

Aaron

Steve...

You are the man !!! I feel a mod coming on...

It's good to know that they recognized this as a problem and fixed it, I just wish they had done it before I bought mine. I think their future quality assurance efforts should include a nighttime ride Biggrin.gif

I think I am missing something...

The original question was about the speed control that has an LCD display in the center of the dash. THis is made by Accuski, not PerfectPass. I believe the answer given was for the Malibu/PerfectPass Gauge that replaces the Tach in the right round dash slot if you ask for PerfectPass.

Hmm.. I think you're correct Sunapee.

I thought it was perfectpass that developed malibu's speed control, but I just looked and there is no menu button (I was thinking of the "E" button for enter).

I'll still stick with my "steve's the man" comment though.

I bet there is a seperate backlight wire and a 0-100 ohm variable resistor would do the trick.

Sorry ... you are correct. I didn't catch that it wasn't PerfectPass as I have the same problem with it. Should have caught it with the '06' model year.

Guess we need to find a contact for Accuski. I know PerfectPass is always quick to help. Don't know anything about Accuski.

Edit: Looks like Accuski's web site is down. Read that there should be manuals available there as well as good support. Will try to remember to check back on Monday.

I also checked the web site. I actually grabbed an e-mail address from another post (guy at accuski.com) and sent him the question. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

I thought Medalian made the guages and the information center?

Train,

You got me on that one... I've never heard of Medalian. I still haven't heard from accuski....

Has anyone here found a solution to the Accuski screen brightness? I do A LOT of night time boating and would like to get my display on a dimmer or even wire the backlight to a separate dash switch if possible. Thanks!

Similar problem on my 2006 23 LSV wake setter ... Center display is black like someone turned down the contrast but can't see it to adjust... Any ideas? Dealership says I need to "replace" the entire display...imagine that!
