Ballast pump

I have a 2011 VTX  that has shurflo Piranha 800 ballast pumps in it. My right rear pump fills but will not empty the tank.  Has anyone ever had this issue.  Is this a pump issue or something else??

Does it use reversible pumps?  I have an 02 VLX which uses the aerator pumps, but it uses separate pumps to fill and drain.  If your's is like this I'd suggest checking the drain pump/s.  Also, if you do have drain pumps, disconnect the wiring from the pump if you can and see if you are getting voltage when you enable the drain operation.  If not, check your wiring.  No sense in replaceing a pump if you aren't getting voltage in the first place.

Can you hear the pump when you select drain?

if not, check the fuse panel under dash, if not the fuse, check connection at the pump for corrosion

if you can hear a faint hum , find assess point to the pump and check the cartrage for an obstruction

i had this problem in my 14, while on the water for a week vacation. It was an obstruction of some sort

I think I figured it out. Need to replace the drain pump and the rear.  Has anyone taken the floor out before under the back locker.  Does not look like fun

So I replaced the pump worked great a couple times out. Now I'm having the same issue. I cut the wires and tested the voltage and I'm not getting any at all

Not really sure were to go from here.

Technically, the next thing in the line is the line itself ;-)  However, yeah check the switch since I wouldn't expect the wire itself to be intermittent, but it's not impossible.  Just much harder to replace the wiring than the switch.

You did check the fuse, right?  There should be a 5A fuse up under the dash.  You could have had a fuse that was partially melted and when you ran the new pumps, it finished melting the fuse.

I just had this happen to me last weekend.  I replaced 3 pumps and one ran fine when I checked it out before installing into the pump housing.   when I went to fill the tank, nothing.  I checked the fuse and it was blown.  I went ahead and replaced all my ballast fuses.

I have a 2009 malibu Vlx and my left rear pump wont fill. I know this is not a fuse issue and not a pump issue as both have been checked.  I and next lead to believe that it is the MUX switch on the dash or a relay before the switch? I cannot locate the relay if there even is one.  I am getting NO voltage at the pump... Please help
