Ballast cartridge electrical connections

Apparently I don't know how to search the forum, because I can't find anything that specifically addresses this. I'm up for my first cartridge replacement and I'm wondering how the crew is handling the electrical connections. Are there waterproof plugs that can be installed to make subsequent cartridge replacements plug and play or are people using butt connectors and cutting wires if/when needed in the future?

If your ballast cartridges in a 14 malibu are as easy as mine are in a 12 Axis then you don't need to worry.  Mine had a deutsch connector after a foot or two of wire.  I shortened the wires on the new cartridge, stripped the new ends and used the deutsch connector that was already present.  If you don't want to shorten the wires the cartridge is already packed with exposed ends.

For reference, my boat uses THESE, I have no idea what is in yours.
