In search of boat inspector near Kansas City, MO

Recommended Posts

I guess the title says it all.  Looking at used boats, one in particular in Brunswick, MO (an hour or so outside of Kansas City).  If anyone knows of a boat mechanic/inspector that really knows their stuff in that area I wnould greatly appreciate their name/number.  I'm in the Detroit area and really don't want to get into the nightmare of buying something site unseen.  I know this is a pretty narrow request but figured I'd ask the forum and see if I get lucky.

Thank you

Look up the two websites for accredited/certified Marine Surveyors ('SAMS' and 'NAMS').  You can search for surveyors by location.  A good surveyor should be willing & able to lake test the boat and check compression, etc.  I purchased my boat sight unseen with a survey, and my FIL just did as well.  Both were good experiences.

I am in KC and if we could work it out, I would be happy to at least put eyes on something for you, but I am not an inspector. What are you looking at?  Summit Boats in a KC could inspect it too, but you would have to have the seller get it there.

If serious, you could put a deposit on it contingent on seller taking it to Summit and you getting a good report card on it (you pay the inspection costs).  That is similar to how I bought my first boat unseen.
