Gunwale rubbing strip - how to get back in on TXI

We have a 2014 Response TXI and the bottom edge of the rubbing strip seems to have popped out on one side for about 1 foot half way along the boat.  There are no signs of damage.  It must have come down on something and caught the bottom side and pulled it out.  The top edge is still in.  How can we get it back in.  I am a bit cautious of hitting it too hard with a mallet as I can't see behind it to understand how it fits in.  Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Are you speaking of the back plastic/rubber (not really sure what material it is to be honest) under the metal strip?

I don't know how it attaches either, but may try loosening the screws that hold the metal strip in to see if you can pop the black portion back in then retighten the screws?

Thanks, I have undone the screws that hold on the metal strip and then behind that there are screws that hold the rubber in place. I have taken these out as well but it hasn't helped.

Interesting. Have you tried calling your dealer to see if they know how it is assembled?

If it is like previous rub rails I have dealt with, the back side of the rub rail portion should be "T" shaped. To insert or reinsert it into the the base, I shoot the affected area with soapy water and smack that section back in with a plastic dead blow hammer. It works best if you can get either the upper or lower lip inserted so you don't have to force both sides in at the same time. Having the sun heat it up a little helps also. Non marring and you won't destroy anything unless you go nuts.
