Hammerhead 383 - "T" for cooling system 90* Replacement

Recommended Posts

So two years ago I broke one side of the engine's cooling "T" .... replaced with two 90* elbows -- "T" Here: http://www.bakesonline.com/detail.aspx?ID=1454

Replacement 90*: http://www.bakesonline.com/detail.aspx?ID=885 and http://www.bakesonline.com/detail.aspx?ID=2511

This year I broke the other side.... about  to replace again and just curious what the second 90* pieces does????  The main one that uses the same threads as the "T" its obvious, by the second one that will fill in where there is currently a plug, what does it do?   It seems like its only used for winter draining purposes... if so, can I just keep the plug in and pull it come winter time?

Got a hold of a dealer who knew exactly what I was talking about (our local dealer is useless) .... confirmed what I was thinking ... the smaller currently plugged port(s) are just for ease of draining in the fall, they can be kept plugged.

Some owners drain their ETX manifolds after each use to stop the aluminum core plugs for eroding and leaking.

With aluminum manifolds it is a good idea to insert a zinc anode to serve as the sacrificial lamb rather than the manifold itself.
