Accident several years ago - I WAS LUCKY!!!

With all of the recent accident posts lately I figured I would share mine. 10 years ago when I was 19 a friend of mine ran me over with the boat when he was bringing me the rope. I was extremely blessed to not receive any injuries and the only damage was to the board. The boat was a 19 foot tri-hull with a 135 Johnson outboard. We had a habit of swinging the rear end of the boat towards the rider after we passed them, this allowed the rope to reach the rider. My friend driving was my normal driver and we had been riding together for a season. This time he was going to fast and swung the rear of the boat to early when he passed me. I saw this coming and raised the board just in time for the rear of the boat to hit me, I went under and then came back up. I was in shock of what just happened, I floated in the water for about 20 minutes just taking in what had just happened, no one said anything. I finally climbed back in the boat and looked at the bottom of the board. The prop had hit it 11 times with the last hit on the fin which bent the bolt holding the fin. We fixed the fin and started wakeboarding again. No alcohol was involved. I just thank the lord for keeping me safe that day.

Wow...you were very lucky! That quick thinking with the board probably saved your life. I bet your friend that was driving felt horrible. Really gets your attention when you have a close call like that doesn't it? I was snow skiing one time in what was basically spring slush (very heavy wet snow) and caught an edge right near the edge of a trail. Before I had any chance to react I was spun around and went over a 15ft embankment, head first, into the woods. My head struck a tree which had fallen over a creek. God was watching over me that day as well, because my head hit the tree on the bottom side and glanced off and under. I ended up in the creek, under the tree. The tree was about 10 inches in diameter so it wasn't a small one! I basically got off with a concussion and cut on my head just above my temple. If I had hit the tree about another inch or two higher I would not be here today. I know what you mean about "taking in whah had happened"! I was very shook up for at least a half hour and it took all I could muster to put those skis back on and go to the bottom of the mountain. It really is amazing how fast you can go from having a great, carefree day, to near disaster.
