Anyone ever modify trailer guide poles

I am in a pretty tight spot where I have just couple inches of clearance on ether side of my trailer to get into my storage unit.  Is there any way to replace the top bolt of each guide pole with a quick release bolt that uses a cotter pin?  This would allow you to quickly remove the pin and move the guide pole next to/against the boat creating more clearance in tight areas? Effectively making the trailer even 4" narrower would make a huge difference.

It would flop enough to hit boat. Tried it already. There is about 12" in diameter of travel if not bolt tight to trailer. There is 2 rods that hold the angle to the trailer and if they are not tight to them the pipes flop all over the place. . And when I mean tight you have to crank the bolt as tight as you can get them. Bad design, if they would have made the bolt pass thru trailer, then pipe and back thri trailer all life would be easier.

All this talk on guideposts. Mine simply drop in a sleeve without a pin.

I can simply pull them out and set them on the swim deck.

They were also this way on my 96 Brendella.

Never had one fall out.

If my boat was here now I would take a picture.

That's how our 2003 ski nautique trailer is, but this design does not allow for that. The guides are meant to be bolted in tight with stainless locknuts. Unfortunately if you have worked with stainless hardware those bolts are going to gaul together with out the use of never seize (messiest stuff on earth.)

What about switching the stainless to galvanized?

Here is a pic. Those pieces of rod welded to trailer center the angle of pipe and if not bolted absolutely tight will cause pipe to swing and hit hull of boat.7A93EFF6-00A5-4085-99A1-BA4041ECB3CE_zps

I cut mine and sleeved it's with a piece of 1 9/16 stainless pipe. We manufacture carwash equipment so stainless is plentiful.B72839BC-BE9C-4883-B61C-611045CC76E7_zps8E16C535-47C8-451A-A065-BB1BC01D1B29_zps

I did the same thing with my 06 Boatmate. Worked great.

I bolted the stainless to the 6" piece that I cut off the bottom of guide.

Seems like there might be a market for a kit to fix this.  Figure a bigger tube with a couple of tabs to bolt to new holes in that plate, a tension bolt and then a pin to pin through one of the existing holes
