Swim Platform Brackets

Recommended Posts

Looking at a 2004 Response, and this caught my eye.  Any theories on what is going on with the bolts?  I'm pretty sure the top bolt is just being used as a spacer, but the bottom two????

Thanks!

in my experience those aluminum swim platform brackets wear very quickly once the case hardened mating surface is worn.

i've replaced mine with newer/expensive/stainless brackets.

i'd suspect that this owner tired of replacing the expensive worn oem style brackets and decided to thru-bolt to cure the problem.

if those thru-bolts replace the oem thru-hull bolts WITHOUT boring new/additional holes i'd suspect you can go back to the oem situation or step up to the new stainless solution.

there is LOTS of stress on the hull because of the large cantilevered swim platform so i'd hope that the owner did not add any more holes through the transom.

I appreciate the response tvano!  After all the work I've done on my boat, why not move on to something else with a new set of problems .
