Prop damage....repair info needed

Just realized my 537 is bent on 2 fins.  Is this enough too warrant repair?  It a new to me 05 vlx, so I haven't had it in the water to see if it vibrates.

It appears I could smooth it out myself, but I'm not sure it's worth paying for repair since I most likely will reprop.

I sure as hell wouldn't run it like that.  Propmd.com is my local shop.  As for home repairs, have you got time to fix, try it out and repeat?  If you are a trailer boater, likely not worth the hassle.  If you have a lift on the lake and a spare prop then maybe worth the time.

spec is 35 ft lbs, but never used a torque wrench on mine and likely near double that.

Props need to be pretty much perfect or you risk vibrations wreaking havoc on your drive train.   Get that one fixed, even if you are repropping, that way you will have a spare to run in case of future damage.

Fabbed up a puller and it worked great. I used my mc wheel balancer, dial indicator and two crescent wrenches and she's nearly good as new.  It took about 1 beers work. ?

I "fixed" a few props over the years but never one that looked that bad.  I'm not sure I could figure out what the blades are supposed to be shaped like.

I plan to reprop and why I was hesitant to spend 200 to repair a stock 537. However, I actually got it within .010" and you can't tell where or which blade was bent.   It's probably better than most props on the lake.

I suspect when you put it on the water, it is going to vibrate even after the repair.  Although I am not exactly sure how you repaired it, it is not likely close enough to avoid vibration unless you used an ACME pitch block.  If it doesn't rattle, then you are a highly skilled and perceptive repairman.  :notworthy:

I suspect this because of experience.  

After a reputable prop shop has fixed it, keep it for the time you get a prop strike on the new propeller.
