2008 VLX water temp gauge not working

so my engine doesnt have the #2 sensor like the pic shows.

I was able to find a loose wire like the one on sensor #2 zip tied to the harness for sensor #3 which i do have, i tried grounding out the wire while watching the gauge but i did not get any movement.

 

im guessing sensor #3 is how the water temp works on the perfect pass screen??

Can't say for sure on your model, but on my boat the Perfect Pass water temp comes from the paddlewheel.  Any lake water temp will be an external probe mounted on the hull.
