VTX Subwoofer and Cabin Speakers - Q's

Last season I replaced the factory Rockford amps with a Wetsounds HT-6 for the four cabin speakers and the set of towers and a HT-2 for the factory sub.  Even with that power to the sub, it still didn't thump like I would expect with 575 watts going to it.

I think it's time to do some speaker work this year before the season begins.  I'm looking at either the JL M650's or the Wetsounds XS650's as replacements to the cabin speakers.  I'd also thought about replacing the factory speakers in the tower with the same JL's or Wetsounds assuming they will fit.  Lastly I'd like to either build an enclosed box behind the factory location or move the sub to the bow under the filler cushion.  Probably a single 10" or 12".

Looking for suggestions as I've not seen many threads here specifically on the VTX since it doesn't have quite the room as its bigger siblings.  Thanks.

Have you verified the output with a meter or just going off the rated output to a 4 ohm bridged load? Is your woofer a 4 ohm woofer and bridged? What about the rest of the tuning settings?

So this tells me the woofer is running infinite-baffle in a boat that I know for sure, does not support an IB alignment or even come OEM with a true IB woofer. So for those of us that do not recall what the OEM offering was in 09, can you remind us. More detail will help get you in the right direction.

Not sure what the inventory numbers are on the retired xs-650, but I would highly suggest checking out the brand new Rev-6.

Ended up pulling the trigger on a WetSounds overhaul; the difference from stock is night and day.

  1. Replaced the four Rockford Fosgate cabin speakers with WetSounds XS-650's and added an extra set for a total of three pairs.  These are powered with the WetSounds HT6.
  2. Replaced the two chrome titan tower speakers with a pair of Rev 10's.  These are powered with the WetSounds Syn4.
  3. Replaced the 12" Rockford Fosgate subwoofer with a 12" Memphis Audio sub in a custom downward firing sealed enclosure.  This is power by the WetSounds HT2.CA62CE83-202B-41A7-B5E3-A6FFB9CB7B56_zps8EC8B850-F21A-4640-AAFF-481388460BDF_zps16F90E1A-6EE9-4093-AB96-51227C688210_zps472471C4-A834-4002-A305-824949563C15_zps
