February Surprise

Recommended Posts

KeepingupwiththeJones

Went out to my storage today and got an unfortunate surprise. I had been cleaned out! All my speakers, the entire amp board, batteries, battery 1/2 all switch all gone. They cut the battery cables at the motor and took it all too. Took both pizza warmer trays and a few other things.

Stored outside?  Not locked up?  I'm confused - what kind of storage?

Thieves need a box anchor attached to their ankles and thrown in the water by the dam. That plain sucks.

The sad part is that we are sometimes are own worst enemies. We search for bargains on eBay and Clist and don't look to hard if he price is right. Theives steal what they know they can market. If everyone would refuse to purchase used items unless the seller could produce receipts or the original boxes thefts of electronic gear would go way down. When you go to buy used gear ask if he has receipts, original packaging or other evidence he is the rightful owner. Time after time when I have asked simple questions the sellers disappear without a reply. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck it's probably stolen. Pay a bit more and buy items you can verify.

Indoor storage warehouse. It's was locked as far as I know. At least 6 other boats got hit. No idea how long ago it happened though.

Now I want to go check on my boat. I can't wait until the remodel is finished at the end of the year and I can keep my boat in the garage...

Definitely disheartening but I am insured. Now I am simultaneously planning a stereo build and looking for a new storage place.

Really sorry to read this! Hopefully they give you full MSRP which should get you a nice replacement?

I might be throwing ours on a slip this summer and will be picking this LTE camera up once released.

I have had these saved in my cart for some time for when it might be stored elsewhere in the future. Cheap and would at least scare the chit out of them.

I have this hanging on the trailer winch which may give thieves a pause too.

Good luck on the rebuild. You going to tackle it yourself or have a shop do it?

I have a few of these attached to my cover so if someone tries to peel the cover back, the alarm goes off.  In a new place now which is much more secure but I still use them.  https://www.amazon.com/EPOSGEAR-Metallic-Minder-Personal-Security/dp/B01N10AFIZ/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1486934190&sr=8-6&keywords=personal+alarm

At least they left your mirror. I know how expensive that is.

The storage place is a large piece of property with insturial buildings on either side. I am not sure there would be anyone around to hear any noise. The warehouse itself was suppose to have cameras and an alarm system. I overheard the officer taking the report ask the owner about these but apparently they quit working over the summer. While nowhere is 100% secure its frustrating to learn that there is not deterrent at all. At least 5 other boats were hit when mine was. I will definitely be moving the boat before replace any of the stereo gear. Don't won't to break the "fool me one rule once."

No idea what to expect from my insurance. I hope that they will cover the all the cost but if not I might have to do it myself just to save money.

This might not be an accident.  There is a good chance someone who works there is in on it.

The thought has crossed my mind but it's a family run business. Maybe I am naive but I don't think the owners were in on it and all the employees are related or long timers. This is the first issue I have had in 2.5 years. They stand to lose far more business then they could have gained by selling a bunch of stereo stuff on the secondary market.

I had a boat that got hit while it was at the dealer being serviced. They knifed through my cover for quick access. But something spoked them (is our guess) because nothing was missing on my boat. Dealer replaced my cover. Glad they went the extra mile. Sorry to hear about your boat. Hopefully insurance won't give you the run around.

Sorry to hear.

One of our local marinas has been hit this winter as well. Thieves know wakeboard are not regularly used this time of year so plenty of time passes before owners discover what has happened. I hate thieves.

Ahhhhh!!! Sorry to hear!

This is my biggest fear with us planning on keeping our boat in a storage unit near a lake 6hours from home for the first time ever this summer. There's just nothing like keeping your stuff in your own garage.
