Removing RF "head unit"

Anyone removed the RF head unit on the left side of the dash? I'm going to tackle a Mod replacing it with the exile digital media center DMC removing the black box from my stereo set up. 

I want to maintain the chromed dash ring and insert a false PVC face where I can mount the DMC.

I'm pretty sure the chrome trim pops off. I had to replace the remote unit once or twice.  

 6  screws are underneath there I think .

Yes, chrome piece pops off and a few screws hold in the unit. Comes out easy. Might be a little tough to fab something up that will hold the trim ring unless you glue it to a piece that you mount in the HU's place.
