I have the Indmar small block (looks just like the pic above). I do remove the knock sensor carefully. Without removing the electrical connection. That allows that side of the block to drain. The electric connection will spin freely if you hold it in one hand, while turning the brass fitting with a wrench. Then I replace it.

Small block uses the drain hole for the knock sensor.

When I helped with my friend's big block Echelon, I wasn't totally confident, so I just opened every hose and drain plug I could find. Found a lot of water. It worked, though!

That's what I'm thinking too!  And then fill it with RV antifreeze.

Just the one drain hole (that holds the knock sensor). As I recall, there is no other places on the block to empty. Just the single hole on each side. (various hoses, etc. though that need emptied)
