Another prop thread! Acme 231 vs 515 / 525

Boat is 95 response with carbed 350. With the 231 boat runs 42mph at 4200rpm.  Hoping to get the speed up some by switching to a 3 blade.  I found a used 515 so that's on its way here.   But I also want to experiment with the 525 so I'll be looking for one of those used as well.

my question is how much difference will there be between the 4 blade and 3 blade??  We mostly barefoot but sometimes will wakeboard or kneeboard.   No ballast and we are at sea level.

Do you mean ACME 2313?  Is that a 15" prop?  I've got the same boat as you, and can't get over 43 mph/4,300 rpm with the 13 x 12 515 (motor revs easily to 4,800 in neutral).

It has a much better hole shot than my stock prop, which was a beat up 13 x 13, 3 blade.

I had the 525 on my '93 carbed Echelon and loved it. I had no problem footing or skiing with this prop.

What was your top speed with the 525?

98 Echelon with monsoon....with my OJ 13x12 tops out at 4500 rpm and top speed about 45-46 mph with about 3450 rpm for 34.2 mph

with my Acme 13x11.5 the rpm is 4900-5000 and top speed is 45-46 mph with about 3650 rpm for 34.2 mph

The 13x11.5 is considerably quicker out of the hole, and mid-range rpm by seat of the pants feel only.  No data to back that up.

I'm going to try my next door neighbor's acme 13x12 and see what happens there.

if I remember correctly 4400 RPM was about 42 or 43 mph.  When we footed it was about 3800 or 3900 RPM and 37 or 38 mph.

Hi @Sethro, a little late to this post - did you ever compare the 515 to your 525 ?    I'm getting a boat that has the CVP 13x13 on it  (gonna remove) and it also has the 525 with it - questioning if I should buy the 515

thanks !

I haven't tried his prop yet.  I will definitely update when I do.  I don't like the fact that my 34 mph RPM are that much higher with the Acme 13x11.5 vs the OJ13x12, but I like that it tops out near 5000 RPM like it should.  I'm hoping for the Acme 13x12 to be a happy medium between both of my props.

So I finally tried the Acme 13x12, and it yielded essentially the same results as the OJ 13x12.  Same RPM/speed results as I posted above.  For now I'm leaving on the Acme 13x12 as I prefer the essentially 1:1 ratio of 3400 rpm is 34 mph.  And it seems the trick table is possibly a smidgen better than the 13x11.5

I bought the Acme 13x12 so I might send one of the 13x12 props back and have them mess with the cup.
