Gas tank removal 2007 VLX

Recommended Posts

Blyon70

Hey guys,

I've been having fuel issues that led to random backfires on cylinders 5,6,7 on different occasions. It has led me to think I've had bad fuel or junk in the gas tank. Low and behold I pulled my fuel pump and there is quite a bit of trash in the tank. I'm running into problem removing the tank and can't remove the rear horseshoe shaped seat support. The issue exists at the cooler. I can't gain access to the screws under the cooler that hold the horseshoe support in place. Essentially I need to remove the cooler but see no feasible way to do so without destroying it.

Has anyone else run into this issue and came up with a resolution?

Seems unlikely that random misfires on 3 specific cylinders would be fuel related.  Have you already done the cap/rotor/plugs/wires replacement?
