Small rip in upholstery

Bonehead move a few weeks ago I put a wakeskate with the fin down on the back engine bay cover and the fin had a small jag in it. It ripped a small hole in it, crying ensued. Being a high foot traffic area I'm curious the best way to go about repairing it. Not really worried about the looks, more concerned about it opening more in the future.

It looks like a nice flat area.  If so, I would first try to patch it from the bottom using a piece of vinyl inserted through the hole (just a bit wider than the slit is long), flatten it under the slit then squirt some vinyl glue through the slit (not too much) onto the patch and glue it to the bottom of your upholstery.  Put some tape perpendicular to each end of the slit before starting to keep it from ripping anymore.  Also close the gap with some blue masking tape after putting the glue on so it dries with the gap closed.
