Dimming G4 interior LED

Recommended Posts

I saw a post on here a little while ago where someone from the crew added a dimmer switch for the internal downfiring led in the G4 tower. We have been out a few times at night and find that the lights are great, but a bit too bright for our taste. If you turn them off, the rest of the interior lights go off and it is too dark. I was hoping to copy that mod and add a dimmer.

i took a look under the gunnel near the tower base on the drivers side, but I was unable to figure out which wires were the ones for the interior lights.

Does anyone know which wires control the downfiring tower lights before I start unplugging everything?

thanks

We just added a switch to a 2016 LSV 25 for its G4 tower's overhead lights that cast light down under the tower into the boat.  I believe if you go to the G4 tower on the drivers side and look underneath its connection point to the gel coat, you will see a wire pair with a blue wire with a white strip and a black wire.  It has a sticker on it that says "overhead lights".  Cory posted the following which gave the wire location:

2) malibu wired the three interior downward facing LED lights on the G4 tower to the interior cabin ambiance lights so currently they both have to be on or off at the same time. PTM has received a couple of complaints about this, so he suspects a future software update from Malibu may address this complaint. In the interim, the power wire that drives these lights comes out of the tower base under the gunnel at the mount point on the starboard side (speaker wires are on the port side). This wire pair is a blue wire with white stripe (power) and a black wire (ground). Be mindful of polarity, since you are dealing with LED lights--not traditional incandescent lights. PTM ships the towers with bullet connectors on about 18" of extra wire length. Nate suspects Malibu probably leaves those bullet connectors in place. So, you can introduce a switch on the blue and white wire under the gunnel to independently kill those downward facing tower lights when desired (e.g., when watching fireworks on the 4th). This should be an easy temporary fix that doesn't require cutting anything. Hopefully Malibu will fix this soon!

I am truly impressed with PTM!!!

Hope this helps.
