97 Response Missing... Help

Our 97 Response is driving us crazy.  It runs fine for 20-30 minutes at any speed and then starts missing, jerking, and occasionally backfiring.  It will idle fine usually but as soon as you try to go it lags and misses.  What we have tried:

New fuel pump, filters,  plugs, wires, distributor cap, bottle after bottle of dry gas, Seafoam, Fuel Injector cleaner, we moved to fuel air valve away from the back of the boat.

It feels like there is water in the fuel, but we syphoned some out and it doesn't look like it.

Can anyone help?

Sounds like it might be a distributor/timing issue. The coil could be getting weak once it gets good and hot, maybe time for a new one. If you have a timing light check the timing as well.

How many fuel filters did you find/replace? Are you sure you got them all?

Sounds like an ignition coil to me too. It might start acting up when it gets some heat into it. Coils are cheap. If the coil is failing, unburnt fuel could be getting into the exhaust, which would cause the backfires.

@Jane:  Also check the anti siphon valve on top of the fuel tank, should be on the vent line fitting (the bigger of the two lines).

 The bearings on the distributor itself can wear out creating similar issues .  Call Vince @ Ski Dim  run your problem by him .

Thanks everyone.  This forum is great!  We put in a new Module (or something like that) and we found another fuel filter right on top of the fuel thank.  We changed that.  Took it out for an hour tonight.  So far, so good.  We have our fingers crossed.
