2011 VTX Monsoon 350 - No fire at all

Hi, I'm a new member with a new to us 2011 VTX that we've had for 1 year.  This is my first inboard but, have had boats for decades.

I'm pretty mechanical. I went to take the boat out to winterize and store until next spring.  The engine cranks well but, no fire at all.

The evening before when the boat was put on lift the boat had been running great.  The boat was very low on fuel.  When it didn't fire I put 10 gallons of fresh fuel in it.

Normally, when I have a no start engine I introduce fuel into the engine and if it pops, starts or fires I know I do not have an ignition/spark issue.

How do you introduce fuel into this closed system?

Does this engine have higher than average probabilities or tendencies to have one or two particular issues with ignition such as crank sensor, ignition module or such?

I do not intend to do a top to bottom diagnosis of this problem.  If I, with your help, cannot identify the problem quickly I will bring it to the dealer.

All of your insight and hard earned experience will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

First check your lanyard switch

Next I'd pull a plug and have someone crank the engine to see if you have spark - or if you have an inductive timing light just use that.

As far as introducing fuel, not too easy to do - I'd just check for fuel at the fuel rail pressure port and toss a gauge on it if you have one,

What OJ said plus: I assume you drove it from the lift to the ramp to put on the trailer?  Is the trailer facing down hill so the fuel pickup might be high and dry?

And why are you putting it away so soon? :dontknow:  Water temp is still 70 in our part of W.  Wisc.

Hi Old Jeep:  Checked my lanyard yesterday and it does not crank with lanyard switch tripped so not likely the lanyard.

Oh yeah.  I have two or three old timing lights. If I can find one, that sounds great. Will check a manual for where to gauge the fuel pressure.

Thank you

Mike

Hi minnmarker: Drove boat on lift and towed it to the trailer landing. (Color me shamed)

73 water temp Sunday. Usually I wait till hard frost but it would not start. lol.

Does anyone know what car engine would be similar or the same to the 5.7 litre   Indmar Monsoon 350.

I am looking to possibly replace coil or ignition module or crank sensor.

Well, I did not test coil. Bought a new one that included the ignition module. Installed new cap and rotor. Still no spark.

If I flip the kill switch it does not crank. Suppose I should jump the kill switch to be sure. The batteries hold there voltage during cranking. All cells test fine with hygrometer.

12.6 volt and 13.3 with charger. I have discovered it fires poorly with a jump. Have taken apart and inspected all connections I can find. I think it is not getting

adequate battery voltage to ignition module or coil. I understand that these HEI systems are sensitive to low voltage. They will not fire at all if only 10 volts or there about.

Anyone know what might cause this?

Was thinking about running a jump wire from battery to coil or module but not knowledgeable enough to do.

Anyone know how to do this?
