Please help Diagnose Engine Fault 65618-7

Hey guy's,

I have started to have some issues with my 07 LSV 23', when were out on the water and we stop or slow down the boat will shut off just before we hit neutral. This doesn't happen all of the time but in a span of 3 hrs it'll occur at least once and it'll take a few minutes to start again or even longer. No issues to crank over but that's all it does and it won't catch, at first i though it was bad gas so i filled with new fuel & installed new plugs but it still does it. Yesterday we were out on the water and same thing happened but this time the engine service required notice came on and it's displaying as SPN 65618 CM 0 FMI 7 OC1 which I tracked to be (ETC) Electronic Throttle Control - Mechanical system not responding properly. I was wondering if anybody has experienced similar issues and how they went about fixing it. I was going to replace the throttle position sensor and see if it solved the problem.

Thanks in advance.

What that code is saying is that the throttle plate is not returning to it's spring loaded rest position. I would remove the flame arrestor and make sure there is nothing interfering with or preventing the throttle plate from returning to its rest position. If there is carbon built-up in the throttle body, remove it and clean it. You can use spray carb cleaner or throttle body cleaner. Blow it dry with an it hose or wipe it dry. When you reinstall, torque the fasteners in 2 or three increments to 9 foot pounds. Use a cris-cross pattern like you would when tightening wheel lugs. If you still get the code, you might have to replace the throttle body. You can't just replace the throttle sensor on electronic throttle control engine.

Thanks Engine Nut, I just started to research and you are correct, no option to change the sensor. I did remove it last night and didn't find anything that would obstruct the throttle plate, i'll try to clean it and we'll see from there. Might have to remove the throttle body assembly all together.

Thanks for your help.
