Help!

I just got my boat back from the shop again. In a previous post it explains why it was there in the first place. Long story short, the boat would cut out when the boat was shifted from idle to forward or reverse  every so often. I also had a leak in the muffler. Anyways, I got the boat back today and dumped it back into the water and put about 5 hours in it. It ran fine at first but then the problem with the engine stalling when sifting gears every so often reappeared. But now I have a bigger problem. I was going close to WOT and the engine started to make a faint whining noise. Almost like a supercharger whine. I started to decelerate and the noise got louder and louder then POP. I but the boat immediately into neutral and and I stayed in neutral for a few minutes. I then attempted to put the boat in forward or reverse and both actions stalled the engine. So there is obviously something wrong with the transmission. Has anyone had anything like this before?? I have the 8.1L vortec engine.

Back in 2003 Indmar had a service advisory SV2003-1 for 8.1L motors with serial numbers before IC995953 for the following conditions.  Stalling at idle, RPM flair when shifting, knock detection lowering WOT performance, incorrect throttle bolt and low fuel pressure affecting WOT performance.

The fixes were throttle stop adjustments, fuel regulator adjustment, and ECM recalibration.  Maybe these adjustments were never done.  The bulletin goes into more detail. I'm certain there is no longer warranty coverage for this, but a good Indmar dealer should be able to check it out for you.

That's interesting. I bought the boat in 2009 used so I'm not sure if this was ever done. Thanks for letting me know. I will be checking with my dealer tomorrow.
