Metallic gel coat repair

Recommended Posts

I have heard on here that it is hard or impossible to touch up metallic gel coat.   Im not looking for perfect but maybe better. My boat has a scratch in the radiant red metallic part.  I'm considering trying to mix some model car paint add some mettalic paint flakes and try and come up with a match.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Hard to match for sure, how big or deep is the scratch? Pics? Are the flakes tinted or silver, I've never repaired flake gel, but sprayed my whole boat.   I got flakes from a fishing lure store of all places, they come in a variety of sizes and colors.  The flakes are typically suspended in clear, so you'd have to spray the flakes, then a couple coats of just clear, then sand and polish.
