We are headed to Lake Powell in 3 weeks.  Leaving Sacramento area.  What route would you take?  BFE Nevada or Bakersfield.  We are tore because we it looks like its a wash based on traffic vs towing over the Sierra's.  Thoughts!

Can't help on the route, but I just got back, and we will be there again about the same time.  We are going out of Bullfrog, and likely heading north to Good Hope Bay.  Which marina are you going out of?

If you are leaving a time of day when traffic isn't an issue I would go through CA.  BFE Nevada is just that...BFE.  Have an issue and it is a long way to get something fixed. It is also a 2 lane highway with lots of 18 wheelers, which means cars constantly passing into your lane.  Makes me nervous every time I drive that route someone is going to drift into my lane and hit me head on!

Powell is epic. It is the mecca of Houseboating in America. You are going to love it. Although make sure your brought your A game/A team because if the weather picks up, you need to make sure your houseboat is correctly hunkered down or it could get serious real quick. Enjoy.

if you go though bfe  you best have multiple spares and be prepared to do bearings on side of road if need be  i always have everything needed for bearings always in the boat

I will be there about then too.

That stretch of Nevada road is awful lonely.

I echo the comments about knowing how to hunker a houseboat down for 75 MPH winds.  I had one cut loose in winds, and it still stings as my worst boating experience.  At least it was daytime.  Luckily I only got out of it with minor damage and a small cut on my finger that literally left a trail of blood wherever I went.
