17 inch prop

15" is absolute limit on Malibu!  I even got some Gel Burn on my current boat with 15x15.5 OJ.  I would love to go to a 17" prop.  The 575 with a 17 x 20 like in the M235!  That would be awesome!

My surf RPM runs ~3500 @ 11.3 with wedge 4 clicks from lift.  I typically have 5000 pounds of Water/lead and 1200 pounds of human ballast.  Start dropping wedge and RPM drops 100-150 for each click.

@DarkSide whats your clearance on the MXZ with a 15" prop? i'll check my 25lsv. the 25lsv hull takes an angled turn back up right at the prop so not sure how that differs with the mxz.

yea a 17x20 would be sweeeeet..

the 575 has the lessor or gear ratios compared to the 450 though i thought it does NOT get a 2:1 it gets the 1.76 though right ? and with a 17x20 that has to stay pretty low rpms then with a 20" pitch and a 1.76 i would think...not to mention having the full hp at the lower rpms as well..

i would have thought the 23lsv gets it if a 22mxz does? Obviously M235/24mx/25lsvs do but did anyone confirm the 22mxz does? or is this going to be one of those mid-year changes?

Here are the various Malibu powertrain offerings in 2017...

M235 / 25 LSV / 24 MXZ

  • Standard - 450 / 2:1 / 17"
  • Optional - 575 / 1.76:1 / 17"

23 LSV / 22 MXZ / 22 VLX

  • Standard - 410 / 1.76:1 / 15"
  • Optional - 450 / 1.76:1 / 15"
  • Optional - 575 / 1.46:1 / 15"

20 VTX / 21 VLX

  • Standard - 410 / 1.46:1 / 15"
  • Optional - 450 / 1.76:1 / 15"

In summary, the 2:1 / 17" combo is tied to the 450 motor on the BIG boats.  On the MEDIUM boats there is no 17" option; we still get 1.76:1 / 15" combo (same as 2016).  The SMALL boats don't get the 2:1 or the 17" prop either.  In fact, I was surprised to learn they are still using the 1.46:1 transmissions with the standard 410 motor.  Is that new or was this the case in 2016?  Maybe @85 Barefoot can tell us what's in his VTX.

Look at IXFE coming in here with all this "data".

It's so much more fun to speculate without any hard facts and make outrageous claims.

Shame on you IXFE....shame....

Yeah... Sorry for ending the thread!  Hard facts are no fun, huh?

does anyone have a 2016 big boat weith the 575? is it the 1.46 in a 2016? since the 450 in a 2016 has the 1.76. ?

just currious if they kept the 1.76 for the big engine in a 2016 or had the 1.46.

Nautique went to 2:1 and 17" prop 3 years ago on the new 2014 G's, but '16 was the first used in combo with the 550. I have the 450/17 combo and love it, so Malibu owners should too. Only difference you'll still be dragging a wedge! Sorry, just helping to keep it alive!

I have a spare 17 inch prop....Acme still doesn't have a storage bag that fits it.  Shame on them.  I called them today, just like I did last year at this time and I am again told that they will have one in production in January (same thing I was told last year).  So my spare prop sits in the original cardboard box in the storage compartment.
