Blown Engine

Recommended Posts

We are theproud owners of a 1995 sunsetter with mercruiser throttle body injection well cared for and used in saltwater as the lakes here in California barely exist. our engine failed this week with under 400 hours need some advise on getting boat repowered at a reasonable price. Have seen good prices online for marine engines. thanks  Jeff

Michigan motorz gets the nod for good if i have read right on this forum. Ebasic power not so good. Jasper...maybe. Im just going off of what i think i have read on this site. Do some searches on this site for those names and see what you get.

Got a brand new GM Vortec 5.7 base marine engine from Michigan Motorz last year to replaced my failed HammerHead in my 2002 Repsonse Barefooter.  All the bolt ons/accessories moved over nicely and I've had zero problems in close to 200 hrs of use.

I did a Jasper 350 marine which showed on time and as advertised. Never had an issue before selling the boat.  The 5.7 GM marine from Michigan Motorz should be pretty straightforward and I have had positive experiences with them.  Figure out the issue before you spend any money on a new engine.  So you use it for about 20hrs a year in salt water with open cooling?

Gary P....  My 2002 Hammerhead was a 365hp, 5.7 with the same specs as the ZZ4  GM engine.  I  thought the fuel mapping and timing in the MEFI4 controller would have been off for the base 5.7L.  Must run nice if you have 200 hrs in a year.  :)
