wetsounds speaker fail?

one of my 6.5" interior wetsounds appears to have failed. Tweeter still works but the big part does not work.

Do i need a new speaker or do i just need a part to fix it?

Have you pulled it to see if its an open voice coil or burned lead.

maybe it's hooked up wrong. backfeeding the tweeter. swap wires to the input and see if that fixes it.

Reversing the polarity would not prevent the speaker's mid-bass from working, the whole speaker would just work 180* out of phase compared to the other.

That would actually be possible with the 808s, but not the 650's

i pulled the speaker and can't get continuity across the wires that go to the mid bass (?) (heavier white wires).

I called wetsounds and they confirmed the speaker is broken and probably cheaper to buy a new one than send in for repair (it is out of warranty).

oh no you misunderstood. on the 808's there is an output for the tweeter if you'd like to put it somewhere else. the shop that originally did my boat did that on two of the speakers.

The OP has the coaxial 65i or 650, not the convertible component style 808. I think the misunderstanding is yours. The only way to hook up the input wrong, is reversed polarity. This is not really wrong, unless its only one and by accident.
