Trailer Backup Lights

I've been coming back after dark more often lately and I have a long curvy driveway I have to negotiate.  It's hard to see what's going on back there so I mounted a pair of these to the trailer fenders, below the step platform.  They are protected from rocks thrown be the tires there.  They seem well built and tested them submerged in a bucket of water for 30 minutes before I mounted them.  The good thing is, with surge brakes, I already had the backup light signal.

oh those will definitely get water in them.

I'v gone through about 5 different pairs of "Cube" LED lights on my truck. They are so cheap that its worth just buying a new set when they do get water in them.

I have a set of those mounted under the bumper on my truck.  I tapped into the trailer wiring harness and they throw enough light that I can see behind the trailer pretty well, and being on the truck they don't get submerged at the launch.  I did have one go bad over the winter bit the replacement has been going strong so far.

So far, so good with these. 10 submersions (5 launch/retrieves) plus the 1/2 hour bucket test.  They really helped tonight, backing in after dark, in the rain.

One thing that might be helping keep water out is that I mounted them with the wires coming out of the bottom.  This seemed to be the most likely point of water intrusion, so I pointed it down.
