Broken Blower

Recommended Posts

On my friends 03 VLX his blower just stopped working while at Shasta last week. He never took on any water, the blower just all of the sudden woudn't work. The light on the dash still comes on but nothing happens. Dontknow.gif The other thing that we can't figure out is why the hoses coming from the engine area to the vents on the transom arn't connected to anything.

The first picture is of the vent outlets on the transom. The two starbord side vents have hoses that hang down about two feet but arn't connected to anything and the two port side vents had nothing connected to them, but with one hose (same length as the starboard side) just sitting on the ground. and the other one was laying on the ground but we assume that one is supposed to be connected to the blower?

The second picture is of the hoses that are just hanging down from the vents.

You're correct....on my '06 V-Ride, three hoses dangle in the engine compartment and the 4th hose is attached to the blower.

I actually removed one of the vents/hoses and added a Sony remote in the opening.

Wow,

Clean install idea, Yabetcha.

Pat,

Those danglin' hoses that go to nowhere is factory spec. I don't know why they bother to let them drop to the bottom of the bilge but, they do. They tend to fall off of the vent opening 'cause they're only held on with tie straps. Usually the hose on the far port side will go to the blower. Yes, the blue thing in the pic. is the blower. It's common when you take a massive roller over the transome or your surfing that water will go in those vents. Unfortunately, the hose going directly to the blower will fill the blower with water if enough water goes over the transome. So, it sounds like you need a new blower motor.

But, first, check to see if it has power and ground when it should be running. Then, after you replace the motor, pop a couple of holes in the hose going from the blower to the vent on the bottom side of the hose's elbow where it makes that 90* turn uphill to the vent. That will allow water that gets in there to drain out.

The hoses dangling into the bilge directs water into the bilge while allowing air into the engine compartment. Simple way to keep water off parts that are not supposed to get wet.

The second post picture is of the blower. Check to see if it spins freely - do this with the blower switch off - cause if it's on and you stick your finger in or it starts up when you spin it, lets just say been there done that and man was that stupid. The third hose should go up to the vent.

:LOL:You just gave me a good laugh.

Well the blower was shot, don't know how but it was. He moved the blower mounts, made a dip in the hose and is hoping that it will stay dry. Thanks for the help!
