Removing Carpet from 01 LSV

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tackled this before? I am thinking about removing the carpet and replacing it with some sort of Gator Step or a product like it. My goat would be to remove the carpet myself to save on labor and such. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Ok so I will add a little to my above question. What does it look like when you install gator step since the fiberglass is not finished...

two comments:

1. Get some marine deck paint/sealant and paint the floor before you install anything. The stuff is thick (but not like bondo) so it will cover minor imperfections, but not smooth out everything. Make sure you let it cure for a few days before you put anything on it.
2. I replaced the carpet in my '93 Echelon and it was coming out when I started the process, but I used a pressure washer with a very wide spray tip and blasted the carpet from the top like I was cleaning it. The glue and backing fell apart and I was able to pull the carpet out easily.

How long did it take to remove the seats, sidewalls and wiring?

Taking it all apart, one day.  Putting it back together was more work. Also the scope of the project kept getting bigger as I kept thinking well I have gone this far, why not....
