How to tell if stringers are good

Recommended Posts

Got a younger buddy wants me to go with him this weekend to look at a 79 Mastercraft that he's looking at for a starter boat...  just debating what the stringers will be like, etc...  what's the best way to be able to tell?  I've only had experience with 93 and newer malibus...  just looking for suggestions of what to look at?

Try turning the lag bolts that hold the motor mounts to the stringers, they should be tight.  Even better, ask the owner if you could  pull a bolt and stick a screw driver in there, see how the wood feels.
