Bought a new prop

We do many trips to Powell every year.  460 miles one way, I feel like I have been playing with fire not having a back up prop.  So I was on the hunt today for an ACME 2419 (same as what is on my boat now).  Of course, like usual, I am planning way ahead - we leave a week from today.

Saw on line that Wakemakers had them for $560, with a 2 day lead time.  Called 5 local people.  3 did not have it.  A prop repair guy could get it for me, but he was at $680.  My dealer had "a bunch", but I understood why when they quoted me $960!

So, ordered through Wakemakers.  I was ready to pony up for next day air to be sure to get it on time when the CSR advised me to place the order with 2nd day to save about $80 (I didn't just order the prop), and call them on Friday around 1 to make sure it shipped.  If not, they will change the shipping to next day.

Have the extra prop will give me peace of mind, and I am happy of the service I got from Wakemakers.  But I am confused and disappointed that my dealer wanted to charge nearly twice as much.....

Did you show the dealer your WM price and ask him to match it for a good customer??

The short answer is MOST people do not know they can buy them online.

I will talk with them in person Monday when I go to pick up a fuel filter.

Somethings they are very competitive with (like an oil change that is about what I would pay for oil and filters alone).  Some stuff they are way out in left field.

From what I understand the wakemakers price at 559 is about 40 dollars over cost...

I think the dealer should make a profit.  I want them to stay in business.  And I likely would have bought it at $100 more than the internet price because I had to pony up more $$ for 2nd day shipping.

But I am not going to pay nearly twice as much.  And now it makes me think that I should probably shop whatever I buy locally.  Just doesn't make sense.

I am going in tomorrow.  I guess I will bring it up, but there isn't anything for me to gain from it.
