1989 Malibu Sunsetter Tower Reinforcement?

Hi I'm looking for possible help from others who have the older sunsetters that have put towers on them. I have a 89 Sunsetter that I restored and put a Indy tower on it. Love the tower but it has some decent side to side movement when towing or on rough water. It's not the tower moving it's the thin fiberglass on the top rail moving a bit. I know these boats aren't made for towers but was wondering if anyone has had any experience stiffening up the glass for the towers? Thanks for any input!

Did you put any backing plates in when mounting the tower? Most factory installs I've seen have 3/16" to maybe 1/4" thick plates on the inside of the hull where the tower bolts down. Make them as big as possible and glass them in place. I've used marine type bondo with fiberglass filler to glue backing plates in, just have to rough up the inside surface and make sure you are not bonding them to loose fiberglass strands and it does the job.
