Removing Red Clay

Recommended Posts

I have tried to find something specific to removing red clay stains from vinyl upholstery, but have not found anything definitive here or via a general internet search.  Long story, the stains are fairly inconspicuous and on smallish side located on the back side of the back locker/sun deck.  That being said, they came with the new to me boat and I am getting sick of them.  Despite my best efforts, I can't get rid of them.  I even called in the "pro's" who couldn't or were afraid to hit it with anything that would touch them.  Anyone have any suggestions for removing well seated red clay stains?

Are you sure they are red clay? I have the TN red and that stuff is tough to get out but it never permanently stains anything. What I am similarly experiencing is bug stains that eventually come out and "it's 6 year old boat vinyl bleed throughs" from God knows what was on the inside of the vinyl from when they put it together. For me those just won't come out regardless of what I have tried! I am pretty sure most of my issues are simply from the vinyl manufacturing process. I have spots in places that have never seen sunlight, sun tan lotion or ever been wet. I have just learned to live with it or I would go nuts! If it is near the gas cap about the only thing I could think to stain it red would be Sta-bil. Good luck.

wdr, i am not sure it's red clay, but came from am private lake that was full of it. However, I am not sure that is what I am dealing with.

oldguy - thanks for the link.  Could very well be the sunburn/bleeding issue, but not as prominent as that shown in the link.  However, it does not go away in direct sunlight or any other time.

I wish I had red that post before buying a black and red cover.
