Prop selection 22 VLX 6.2 liter Raptor

Hi everyone,

just got through break-in phase on my 2016 VLX. The boat was delivered to me with an ACME 2249 (15"x14.25"x.105"cup). I dinged it up at our boat launch bringing it in for its first service and the dealer gave me an ACME 2315 (15"x12"x.105"cup) to try as a replacement. As far as performance goes the 2315 definitely had jam out of the hole. With full stock ballast and 3 adults and 1 child was running 3500rpm at 10.6mph, without ballast and same passenger load about 4000rpm at about 22mph. This boat is nothing like my old 05 Vride with the 350. Much higher rpms and lower top end. Bottom end roque is epic in comparison.

My first question, why the heck are the rpms so high in this engine transmission combo, Is this ok to run at such high rpm? Just doesn't feel comfortable running steady at 4000rpm if cruising. Now for beginner to intermediate surfing the 2249 should work pretty good. The 2315 seems pretty aggressive for an all around prop in my opinion.

Second question, can anyone recommend what is a decent all around prop to use? We are in central Alberta so about 3000' above sea level. Looking for a prop that I can still cruise without hitting such high rpms and allow us to still recreational surf and wakeboard?

Thanks.

Brian
