Mdc 1600 failed...again...switch to different gauges??

Recommended Posts

So April 30th last year I ordered a new mdc after trying to repair mine with no luck. Yesterday on the water I lost gauges, again. Went through the mdc troubleshooting and all signs point to the mdc. Call medallion and they said sorry it's a 1 year warranty. Talk to the tech and told him I was cruising about 25 when the tach just stuck and the other gauges pegged out. Nothing they can do and can't warranty it out. I think it's time to switch to analog gauges as I'm not spending $300 a year to have oil volts temp and fuel, as tach and speed are on perfect pass, with the factory tach filling the third 5" hole. If anyone has gauge suggestions please let me know. Hard part is the 5" cluster gauge. Tach should be easy to find one that matches close enough.

Thanks

Do you still have the speedo's hooked up to the MDC?  I'm convinced water intrusion from the speedo's is a big reason for the failures of those boxes.  Throw in freezing of said water intrusion in the winter and it's even more of an issue.  Water isn't technically supposed to get up there, but it does.

No I did not reattach with new mdc. I just use perfect pass for speed

I plugged the lines under the dash. The mdc still looks brand new. I peeled the back off and the capacitor was charcoaled. The fuses running to the mdc were good. The guy at medallion thought it was strange that it happened while cruising. He said usually it happens when someone jump starts it wrong or something like that.
