Teak Platform

Recommended Posts

We just purchased an '06 V-Ride and my hsuband is already obsessing over the platform and its appearance. I want to insure that he cares for it properly. Any suggestions, not on restoring it, but what to condition it with to keep it looking new? I read the restorations, but would like to avoid that if possible.

I'm sure you have all been over this before...but for this newby it is appreciated!

Teak Guard - treat it once a year and it looks like living room furniture.

$40 for enough to last 3 years worth.

I may be overdoing it but after each use, when i am putting the boat away, the last thing I do is to apply teak oil to the deck. It looks great...like a piece of furniture. Everyone comments on it. I do have indoor storage for my boat.

Can you use stain on the teak to intensify or alter the color if you like? Has anyone tried that? If so, did anyone find that the color bled onto anything?

I've never heard of anyone staining teak, as it is a beautiful wood when it is properly cared for. Teak is a great wood for the marine environment because it is "self-protecting" due to it's high content of oils. Staining may alter this naturally occuring feature, so I'd check with an expert before staining.

I won't stain it.

I've always been told not to.

I've used teak oils and other treatments.

The best I've seen is definitely the Teak Guard.

Ummm...do nothing...let it weather...it still looks good when it is wet.

If you are looking at your teak when it is dry, then your boat is not in the water enough ;)

C'mon RoverOn what kind of advise is that...

Don't stain the teak it can only create problems. Like people said teak oil if you don't mind putting it one every week or so (which only takes about 2 minutes honestly) or teak gaurd if your boat stays in the water or you perfer the once a year treatment.
