383 Oil Amount

Since I bought our boat with the 383 last year, I have no idea of the "new" dipstick was put in.  I called Indmar to see if I could still get one and was told "put in 6 quarts, make a new mark on the dipstick and you're good to go"  .... since I'm sure I didn't get 100% of the oil out, no clue if I have the new dipstick, but I know I added 5 quarts of fresh oil with a 6th ready to go.... How much should I actually be putting in this boat?! ... and is there any way to know what dipstick I have?!

Thanks

To see if you engine has the updated dipstick, the last three digits of the part number on the dipstick itself would be 383. The pull ring would also be yellow or orange in color. If it does not have the dipstick, fill the engine to the full mark on the current dipstick. Then add one full additional quart, this is now the new "full" level. Simple as that.

Thanks for the help!

My fear was I had the new dipstick, added 1 extra quart, caused chaos.   Hopefully I see a "383" at the end of the PN and all will be well.

EDIT - I happened to have one photo of the engine with me at work - yellow dipstick:

Thanks again!
