'97 VLX Dash Refresh

Bu hoo

I spent a little Christmas money to refresh my stale outdated wood grain dash.  My analog clock had crapped out, the RPM gauge was jumpy, the pitot tube speedo was unreliable, and my steering wheel was getting worn.  It was time for a change.

I searched the depths of the internet for steering wheel options.  I tried to be frugal and ordered a Grant 457-1 from Summit Racing for less than $100, but it arrived in a 5 bolt pattern and I wasn't overly pleased with the quality.  The poly grip was already peeling along the seam.  Ultimately, I decided to wait for a deal on a better quality wheel like a used Isotta, but I found this wheel instead.  I can't even tell you how great it feels in my hands.  It also looked good with the rest of my dash refresh, imo.

I searched for options to redo the dated wood grain and came across this 3M carbon fiber wrap.  It had good reviews and was really pretty easy to work with.  It took about 2 hours to wrap all the dash pieces.

For the gauges, I replaced them with a Faria set with a gps speedo.  I kept the paddle wheel PP because we board in a river.
