For some odd reason that just seems a little bit dangerous in my mind not sure if it's the boat hitting the way and being a little uncontrolled or the outboard motor on the back of it

Yeper always cool and fun till something goes very bad!   But we never thought anything would happen!   Might be fun to send it to the Po. Po.  they may just send someone a ticket to remember the fin day!   I can see a Florida ID #

The rider is like 5' behind the rooster tail which means the boats got dangerously close as well.  At least it appears they hooked the tow rope on the starboard side.  Registration appears to be FL 4250 xx in case anyone's pissed off enough to pass this on to local authorities.

Usually the rider cuts out to meet the boat.

I can just hear his wife when he gets done.  "Is that a bottle in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?"

Yes, Carrying a box of band-aids to a knife fight is safer

LOL, I didn't say safe.  But at least the skier would be the one moving towards the object that could kill them.  I've seen this trick done with a parked boat or person on a dock before.
