Can't say for sure on yours but my 2002 boat had a 70amp alternator...you can get NEW alternators shipped via DB Electric on ebay for less than a local rebuilb.  I upgraded to a 120amp.

When you switched from a 70A to a 120A, did you check to see if the wiring, particularly the wire from the output terminal of the alternator to the starter solenoid was sized to adequately carry the extra current? I am also assuming that the alternator meets J1171 Marine Specifications.
