Nice!  I have the same dash, and it's chipped in a couple of spots where the tiny screws go through.  I might have to try this same carbon fiber technique.  Was it difficult to smoothen out, I assume just fiberglass resin?

Yep! I used epoxy resin because that's what I had laying around but actually wanted to use cheap polyester resin because it's thinner and cures faster but I would've had to go to the store for that. I just layed some sheets of cheaper fiberglass on the bottom to add some thickness and finished it up with one layer of carbon twill. Cheapest place I've found carbon fiber is Soller Composites and I had some pretty thick 19.7oz carbon fiber which wouldn't be necessary for this but it's what I had.

Smoothing is kind of irrelevant for this actually. I added extra resin to the carbon fiber to give it a nice thick layer and make sure there were no air bubbles....just in case. However, all I did was sand the whole thing down with 80 grit sandpaper to make it smooth and then sprayed some UV resistant clear spray paint on it. Resin isn't very UV resistant, in general, and will yellow over time if left untreated. Just be careful you don't sand past the carbon fiber or you'll mess up the pattern. The clear coat will make those fibers pop again.
