Wrap Removal

Howdy,

So recently picked up an 07 VLX with a wrap on it. Not a huge fan of wraps so was contemplating on yanking it off as soon as it gets warm. Has anyone ever had any experience pulling a wrap off a boat? Am i going to have to get it wet sanded to get gunk of the hull or does it pull clean?

Thanks!

T

and cross your fingers that the gel goat is in good condition, because you never know what you will find behind the wrap.

I agree.  You may remove that wrap and wish you had not.  Is it really ugly?

I agree too - ditch the wrap.  I'd rather remove the wrap and roll the dice with whatever is underneath it.  Gelcoats clean up pretty well, hopefully there's nothing too bad.

Sorry - can't add any suggestions on how-to, but from what I've seen about installations I would agree with Footndale.

Looks like only a partial wrap. Almost none above the rub rail. Original gel is black & grey?

Frankly as wraps go, I think that one looks pretty descent. Hopefully it's not hiding something.

Yea...if it were me, I'd take my chances as to whatever was under that wrap.

Edit:  Although a lot of what makes it bad for me seems to be reflection off the floor..

I'm in the same boat. I have the first LF axis brostock boat that's all white with liquid force, monster, etc wrap. Luckily the wrap was installed before the boat hit the water so the gel coat is brand new underneath. I'm just afraid of the sticker residue that may get left behind. My expirence with past wraps/ stickers tell me to leave it on haha.

I say have a bunch of denatured alcohol on hand in a soaked rag, then give the boat a nice coat of wax. Let us no how it goes!!!!

I dont really care about it being on the trailer as its mostly on the water.

As far as wraps go the guys spent big bucks on the wrap and getting it applied. My marina was really impressed on how well it was put on... if only it wasnt hard on the eyes.

The boat is in MINT condition, so not to concerned on under the wrap damage.

I will let everyone know how the removal goes here in a couple months. Definitely wouldnt have a hard picking my boat out at the ramp haha

Use a heat gun, and you should be golden.  I've removed partial stuff on race cars (including fiberglass panels), but not a boat.  But I can't imagine it would be different.  Wraps aren't like decals in that they generally don't have a residue.  But if there is, go to an automotive paint store and buy a can of 3M Adhesive remover.  Won't harm paint or gelcoat or anything, and works very well.  I've used it to take off an old registration sticker, so issues.

Wont let me upload a photo due to size restrictions...

I can live with it, but the wife/admiral says its gotta go!

I knew which boat it was before I even clicked the link. This was on CL for months before ebay too, I considered it when I was looking.
