96 response with replaced speedometer

I have recently purchased a 1996 response. The previous owner had one of the speedometers replaced with a gps speedometer. The problem is the pitot tube off the back of the boat now throws water everywhere since the hose is disconnected. I would like to remove the pick up and hose but what do you do about the holes in the boat? any suggestions or has anyone done this before?

Assuming you mean the hose is disconnected and the pickup is throwing water up behind the boat, you have a couple options:

--Leave the pickup in place and cap off the outlet for the hose. Or if the hose is still in place and shooting water, just plug it.

--Remove just the blade portion of the pickup, leaving the mounting plate on the hull.

--Remove the entire pickup and seal holes with PL5200 or similar.

And of course the cleanest and best looking:

--Remove entire pickup and either DIY fiberglass and gel coat with Spectrum, or take to an experienced FG repair shop.

One of the reasons for two speedos is if one of the pitots gets clogged. In slightly newer R's ther is only one speedo still with two pitots and a toggle to switch the one speedo to either of the two pitots in case one fete clogged. A common occurrence in a weedy lake. So you could plumb both pitots to the one speedo to optimize functionality.
