starting from scratch- installing 2 amps on a 1/2/both/off switch

My stereo wiring is pretty jacked up right now. I have 2 amps now, but the power for 1 is jumped from the terminals from the other. I'm going to start fresh and do it right. I have 2 batteries with a 1/2/both/off Perko switch. I want one battery to be the starting battery only, and the other battery to run the stereo and house loads. Or is it better to have a stereo only battery, and a starting/house loads battery?

On to my questions...

I want to run a single large cable to a distribution block right near the amps. Should this cable come straight from the battery, or from the load post of the Perko switch?

If this cable comes from the load post on the switch, does the main fuse go close to the battery, or right after the switch?

It would be great if someone could draw a diagram.
