Kelly's Wave - Best Artificial Wave Ever Created

I must admit that the video is really taken in absolute best conditions to maximize hype - but is awesome!

But.... looks like he's got some competition too.

WaveGarden looks like it might use similar tech (although WaveGarden claims to have it patented) and already has one called Surf Snowdonia operational and now upgraded to their 2.0 version in the UK... and they are building the Nland Surf Park opening in Austin Texas 2016.

Above-water, the two parks look pretty similar! I was wondering how they worked and found this: Wikipedia
From Wikipedia:

Surf Snowdonia has a freshwater pool which contains a wave-generation mechanism, manufactured by the Leitner Group, and based on a prototype built in San Sebastián, Spain, by the Spanish company Wavegarden. It has a contoured base that can generate three different sized waves, at a rate of one a minute. The pool can generate a 2-metre (6 ft 7 in) high wave which can last 16 seconds and travel 150 metres (490 ft). The company claims this is the longest man-made surf wave in the world. The pool is filled with rainwater collected from Snowdonia reservoirs including Llyn Cowlyd. This water passes through the adjacent hydro-power station, originally built to power the former aluminium plant, before being pumped from the tail-race into the surfing pool.
The pool is 300 metres (980 ft) long and 110 metres (360 ft) wide, containing a total of six million gallons of water. A bi-directional snowplough-shaped wave-generation mechanism, towed on a cable between the two central towers, moves up and down the pool on a three-rail track, generating the waves. The underwater machinery, powered by a 2MW motor, is covered with a protective stainless steel netted screen, to keep surfers from any moving parts, yet without impairing the energy of the waves. The water in the pool is cleaned and cycled every 24 hours by passing through ultraviolet cleaners, so that the water can be chlorine-free.
The wave pool can be used by as many as 52 surfers at one time.

This is NOT the cable park of wake surfing. This is the cable park of point break ocean surfing. This looks to be the real deal. Really interested in seeing where this technology goes and how many of these parks will be built around the country. I am excited for this, as long as they don't make the waves go the wrong way like they did at slaters pool.

that is the RIGHT way. Right in both ways hahaha

That is legit and you actually need to know how to surf with a wave that big. For those who have surfed in ocean it's a much different experience than behind a wake boat.

How are they making that thing? Looking forward to seeing more info on this.

They use a big plow under the water that pulls the water. We didn't see much of the Slater pool in the video but it seems to be quite a bit different than the Snowdonia pool. The wave seems to break away from the source as opposed to toward the source on the snowdonia wave. V2.0 may be different but Snowdonia didn't seem to be nearly as defined or even close to as large. Slaters wave was overhead at the drop in. The biggest I have seen (in videos) Snowdonia is chest high at best, and that was the red bull competition. If they could make it bigger, that would be the event to do it.

Edit: Slaters pool also looks to pull toward the source but looks to be a wider.

Looks like the Wavegarden pool had some issues at the Snowdonia location. Their website says they had to close 8 weeks early due to mechanical failure and they had to shut down 3 separate times during the first season for mechanical issues.
