Cannon Plug disconnection

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've got a 2000 Sunsetter and I want to disconnect the cannon plug at the rear of the motor. (big plug with a hose clamp).

It won't budge. Any suggestions. Got problems with my gauges and am checking wiring harness.

Thanks,

Completely remove hose clamp. Use a very small screwdriver to 'peel' outer rubber away from inner rubber all the way around the plug....they are likely just stuck together from never having been apart. Do not twist that plug. Just pull straight apart.

Are all cannon plugs supposed to have a hose clamp on them? Mine does not, never had one.

Mine just had a zip tie pulled very tight. Also, the one I have only goes back together one way. The pins are not symmetrical.

You can also rock the connector in a circular motion to help break it loose. As RTS said, it is just stuck.

And as far as I know, they all have arrows molded on the sides to aid in proper alignment. Match the arrows and push together. Color the arrows with a marker if you need to, but I would be amazed if your plug doesn't have arrows.

My speedo stopped working first a while ago. then the tach stopped working. I pull out of the garage and start it and the tach works. (miracle)

I unplug the cannon plug, inspect it and plug it back in.  Now it won't start!  Everything has power and the warning buzzer sounds but no crank when I turn the key.

Any ideas?
