Oil Change on a 2014 23 LSV with Monsoon 409 Engine

Recommended Posts

I am looking some suggestions on the best way to drain the oil out of my engine. I have a hand pump vacumm system that utilizes the dip stick tube to draw oil out but on this engine i am not able to get the tube that came with my pump down to the bottom of the oil pan. Appears to stop about 4 inches above where the dip stick bottoms out at. I have tried seeling off the dip stick tube but still cannot get enough of a vacuum to draw it up and out. Anyone have any suggestions on what type of equipment they have had success with? Thanks much, Slowride.

You should have a drain hose attached to the bottom of your oil pan, the drain hose end should be clipped

to the back side of the motor, slip it down through the hull drain plug, take off the end cap and drain into a bucket.

Yep, drain hose connected to your oil pan is the best way to do this. On my boat, it has a threaded brass fitting with brass cap connected to a giant paper-clip-looking fastener, tucked up on the forward port side of my engine. I just snake the fluid evacuator tubing inside of the drain hose. It doesn't even have to go all the way down to the pan to work, at least in my experience. YMMV.

FWIW, over the years, a number of crew members have attempted to drain using the dipstick channel, only to have the suction tube get stuck and the tip sheared off while trying desperately to remove it. It may have been a blessing that yours wouldn't reach far enough.

I always trailer mine so I don't have to change it in the water. But, if I did, I would fab up a suction pump that screwed directly to the oil drain hoses pipe thread. This way I wouldn't be concerned with the tube being inserted the correct amount or breaking off. It would probably be just a manual suction pump.

Thank you found it and it works well.
